After a string of impressive announcements, Apple today finally turned its attention to the long-neglected Mac mini. Many had assumed that the reason for the delay was a significant redesign, something on the order of the treatment Apple paid to the Mac Pro last year, but the result was far more pedestrian. Still, fans of Apple’s small and versatile Mac mini will be happy to finally get up-to-date hardware.
The new specs include:
- 4th generation Haswell CPUs
- Intel Iris and HD 5000 Graphic options
- PCIe-based flash storage
- 802.11ac Wi-Fi
- Two Thunderbolt 2 ports
The company also lowered the price, and the Mac mini returns to its original starting point of $499, a $100 reduction from the starting price of the preceding model. Customers who have been waiting for this announcement can order the new Mac mini starting today.
