The next installment in the popular Sims franchise will arrive in 2014 for PC and Mac, publisher EA announced Monday.
Today we are revealing to our top fans the fact that The Sims™ 4 is coming to PC and Mac in 2014. The Sims franchise is fueled by the passion and creativity of its millions of fans around the world. Their continued devotion to the franchise ignites the fire of creativity of the team at The Sims Studio, driving them to continually improve and innovate on one of the world’s most successful simulation game that has sold more than 150 million copies worldwide.
The Maxis-developed franchise began in early 2000 with the release of The Sims, a groundbreaking experience that took Maxis’ SimCity concept to an intimate level. Players controlled just a single individual and had to choose where they lived, how they decorated their homes, how they earned a living, and who they associated with. Players could even marry other “sims” and start families.
Even more popular sequels followed, including 2004’s The Sims 2, 2009’s The Sims 3, and a multitude of expansion packs that add content and locations to the game. In all, over 150 million copies of all Sims titles combined have been sold worldwide.
The company promises that more information on the game will be available Monday afternoon. Fans will no doubt be anxious to learn if the game will require an “always-on” Internet connection, a controversial feature that caused an uproar upon the launch of SimCity earlier this year.
