Just about a year after its launch, the radically redesigned 2013 Mac Pro is finally getting aftermarket upgrades. Apple-focused firm Other World Computing (OWC) today announced the OWC Aura SSD for Mac Pro, which lets Mac Pro owners upgrade the system’s PCIe-based flash storage after purchase.
8x More Capacity
For the first time, upgrade the 2013 Mac Pro internal SSD and gain up to eight times the factory-installed capacity.
Innovative and Dependable
OWC Aura SSD for Mac Pro is the only SSD upgrade solution engineered specifically for your Mac Pro. Industry leading controller technologies deliver time-tested longevity and degradation free performance. OWC is dedicated to bringing even higher capacities and enhanced performance to your Mac Pro in the future.
Upgrade Easy with OWC
The Aura SSD for Mac Pro upgrade kit comes complete with everything required for a DIY upgrade, and OWC’s comprehensive, free install videos guide you through the process step-by-step. Upgrading your Mac Pro couldn’t be easier.
OWC advertises “sustained speeds up to 726MB/s,” but real world testing is needed in order to compare the performance of these new drives to the factory offering from Apple. The OWC Aura SSD for Mac Pro will be initially offered in two capacities:
- 1TB for $899
- 2TB for $1479
At 1TB, the OWC SSD is priced $99 higher than upgrading to 1TB at purchase ($800), but it gives flexibility to Mac Pro users who discover that they need more storage down the road. With the 2TB option, OWC offers users a capacity unavailable from Apple, important to some users considering that the 2013 Mac Pro is limited to a single internal drive.
To allow users to utilize their stock Apple SSD after upgrading, OWC is also introducing a version of its well-reviewed Envoy USB 3.0 external enclosure that is compatible with the Mac Pro’s drives.
Both capacities of the OWC Aura SSD are available for pre-order today directly from OWC, and are scheduled to ship in late December.
