One of the simplest, yet most used services here at the TekRevue office is Coffitivity, an audio experience that recreates the hustle and bustle of a local coffee shop. The theory goes that some people can concentrate better and be more productive with a steady stream of ambient noise instead of silence, a theory that proves true for us, at least. Coffitivity started as a free website that offered streaming audio of the coffee shop experience, and earlier this year expanded to a handy $2 iOS app, so that users could get the benefit of the experience on the go.
If you haven’t tried it, now is the time. As noted by AppShopper, Coffitivity is now free on the iOS App Store with universal support for the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. The app allows users to adjust the volume of the background audio track, select different tracks based on time of day (“Morning Murmur,” “Lunchtime Lounge,” etc.), and even mix music over the track to simulate the effect of working at a coffee shop with headphones on.
It sounds gimmicky, we know. But now that it’s free we strongly recommend you give it a shot, especially those who work alone or in unnecessarily quiet settings.
