Car electronics company Pioneer announced plans this week to bring Apple’s CarPlay to existing vehicles with an aftermarket in-dash solution. In addition to supporting CarPlay in future products, Pioneer will also add CarPlay support to its current line of receivers via a firmware update this summer.
CarPlay is an exciting new feature that promises to integrate iOS into the driving experience like never before. But, thus far, access to CarPlay required the purchase of a new car. Now car electronics firm Alpine is reportedly working on an aftermarket device that can bring CarPlay to existing vehicles, although it’s rumored to still cost up to $700.
