Apple released a maintenance update for iOS Thursday. iOS 6.1.4 is available exclusively for the iPhone 5 via iTunes or an over-the-air software update. No other iOS 6 iDevices appear to require the software.
Apple states only that the new version updates the iPhone 5’s audio profile for speakerphone usage. There is no other indication of what, if anything, changed.
The update will undoubtedly upset the jailbreak community, which is still recovering from the announcement last month that premier jailbreak team “evad3rs” may wait until the release of iOS 7 to continue development, with the goal of not revealing its hand to Apple too early. Jailbreakers were therefore stuck on iOS 6.1.2 with a desire to go to 6.1.3, to say nothing of today’s release.
Apple’s previous iOS update, 6.1.3, was released March 19 and featured security fixes and improvements to Apple’s Maps app in Japan. The next version of iOS is reportedly undergoing a major overhaul and is expected to be teased at WWDC in June before a public release this fall.
