Apple on Thursday released iTunes 11.0.3. The update includes several new features that will be well-appreciated by fans of the previous iTunes interface.
New MiniPlayer
The MiniPlayer has been updated to feature an album cover showcase mode. Simply hover your mouse over the small album cover and click the “up” arrow to reveal a larger album cover with overlaid controls.
The player also now sports a progress bar.
Improved Songs View
Users can now use the “View Options” while in Songs view to toggle the display of album artwork. The size of artwork can also be customized.
This view is very similar to the interface in older iTunes versions, and will be a welcomed addition by those who are not fans of the album-centric view in iTunes 11.
Multi-Disc Albums
Albums with multiple discs used to display one after the other, with track one of the second disc appearing immediately after the last track of the first disc. Now, iTunes displays the discs properly labeled as “Disc 1,” “Disc 2,” and so on.
The update also includes performance improvements when searching and sorting large iTunes libraries, and security enhancements. It is available now via Software Update or Apple’s Download Page.
