Gamers of the late 1980s and early 1990s will likely fondly remember Amiga, the line of advanced home computers sold by Commodore. In addition to its role as a Mac and IBM alternative, the platform also quickly became known for its advanced games and multimedia applications. Although doomed by the fall of Commodore in the mid-90s, the software division of the company lives on and this week announced that many of its classic games will soon be ported to iOS.
Although no specific titles were mentioned, the company promised compatibility for the complete range of iOS devices: iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, along with support for upcoming iOS game controllers. It’s unclear if Amiga plans to release games as individual and separate applications, or if it will launch a single app and distribute games within via the in-app purchase process, similar to the path taken by the Commodore 64 app. Either way, expect the first titles to arrive “in time for the 2013 holiday season.”
