Leaked Build of Spartan Web Browser Reveals Impressive Cortana Integration
Windows 10 will feature a new Web browser called Spartan when it launches to the public later this year. Although Spartan’s improved rendering engine is already available to those testing beta builds of Windows 10 via the Windows Technical Preview program, those early builds still include just Internet Explorer, as the Spartan app and UI have yet to be integrated.
Microsoft has teased a few Spartan features thus far, but much about the browser was unknown. This week, however, WinBeta obtained a leaked build of Windows 10 that includes the Spartan browser. Although unfinished, many of Spartan’s unique features rely on Cortana integration, providing a seamless experience that lets a user interact with various types of data without having to leave the Spartan browser.
The video of the leaked build, embedded at the top of the page, demonstrates Cortana’s ability to scrape or correlate information about restaurants and businesses viewed in Spartan, quickly lookup reference information on places, people, or terms, and provide contextual information such as current weather and driving directions.
Microsoft has yet to announce a final release date for Windows 10, thus far indicating that it will launch in the second half of 2015. However, Windows Technical Preview members will soon be able to get their hands on the beta build of Spartan demoed in the video, with rumors suggesting that it will be included in the updated Windows 10 build released this week.
