Netflix on Thursday joined the iOS 7 bandwagon by releasing an updated app for its streaming video service. The new version, 5.0, adds HD playback support, overall playback optimizations, stability improvements, and, for the first time, official AirPlay support. Netflix has long offered a dedicated Apple TV app, but now users will be able to stream content from their iOS devices directly to the Apple TV without the need to access and configure the native application. AirPlay support will also allow users to stream the audio from a Netflix video to dedicated audio-only AirPlay speakers.

Netflix 5.0 is a free update available now on the iOS App Store. The app requires iOS 6 and higher to function, but the new HD and AirPlay features require iOS 7. Usage of the app requires a Netflix streaming account.
