“HD” remakes of older games are everywhere these days, but one we’re really excited for is Fable Anniversary, the remastered edition of Peter Molyneux’s 2004 classic action role-playing game. Heading initially to the Xbox 360, the game will feature an improved 1080p resolution, new interface, “almost instant” loading times, Xbox SmartGlass support, and, for the first time, Xbox Live Achievements.
First teased way back in June, the game is now set for release on February 4th, with developer Lionhead Studios revealing this weekend that physical copies of the game are currently being pressed. Those who hurry to pre-order before launch will get several bonuses in the form of custom character outfits.
While we’d like to see the game eventually make it to the PC, our love of the series and desire to return to Albion means that we’ll have no trouble swapping the Xbox One out for the old 360 for a few days. Look for Fable Anniversary to hit both retail and digital storefronts for $40 the first Tuesday in February. Those interested in the remastering process can also check out Lionhead’s blog.
The original Fable first launched in September 2004 for the first-generation Xbox. It was eventually ported to Windows, Mac OS X, and the Xbox 360, and also received two sequels.
