Facebook’s surprise acquisition of Oculus earlier this week left many upset by the deal, including independent game developers. While Facebook and Oculus promise that nothing will change for the worse, users and developers are reacting negatively to the deal, including a humorous $2 billion stretch goal to the Frog Fractions 2 Kickstarter to “buy Oculus back from Facebook.”
Microsoft’s acquisition of Nokia’s devices and services divisions will have to wait a bit longer to finalize. Both companies announced early Monday that the deal, expected to close this month, won’t wrap up until April as regulatory agencies in Asia have yet to issue approval.
Facebook announced a major deal late Wednesday, agreeing to purchase popular messaging service WhatsApp for $16 billion. Facebook will let its new division operate independently and maintain its own branding, as well as maintain its own Facebook Messenger for the foreseeable future.
The $7.2 billion deal to sell Nokia’s mobile hardware business to Microsoft is inching closer to reality. Nokia’s shareholders this week overwhelmingly approved the sale, and the deal is expected to be finalized in early 2014.
