Reeder was a popular RSS app for OS X, but it met its demise when the Google Reader service was discontinued. Now, after months of work, Reeder’s developer is ready to show off Reeder 2 for Mac, albeit in beta form. Now compatible with a variety of RSS services, Reeder 2 sports a new look, cool animations, and robust support for third party service integration. It’s free while in beta to all users, although a paid Mac App Store release is on the way.

As promised, Microsoft has made the Windows 8.1 Preview available for download. MSDN and TechNet subscribers can download a full installer image from their respective membership sites, while everyone else can get the preview from the Windows Store. Apple Starts Developer Testing of OS X 10.8.4 With Build 12E27

Apple on Monday began developer testing of the next version of OS X Mountain Lion by seeding the first beta build of OS X 10.8.4. The build, number 12E27, comes just over two weeks after the public release of the long-tested 10.8.3.
