Microsoft CFO Tami Reller announced today that the first major update to Windows 8, codenamed “Blue,” will ship by the end of the year as Windows 8.1 and will be free for existing Windows 8 users.

Microsoft reported late Monday that the company has now sold over 100 million Windows 8 licenses since the operating system’s launch last October.
