In addition to finally supporting third party keyboards, Apple now offers its own keyboard improvements with the introduction of QuickType in iOS 8. QuickType learns your typing patterns and offers suggestions which, if correct, can help you quickly input text in everything from notes, to websites, to text messages.

QuickType offers popular and familiar functionality that has been available on other mobile platforms for several years, but iOS users new to the feature may prefer that iOS 8 keep its suggestions to itself. Here’s how to hide QuickType’s suggestion bar in iOS 8.
To hide the QuickType suggestion bar, open any app that launches the iOS keyboard, such as the Notes app displayed in our screenshots. Once you start typing, you’ll see suggested words begin to populate the gray bar above the keyboard.
To hide QuickType, simply swipe down on the gray bar. Doing so will hide the QuickType suggestion bar, leaving just a small white bar in its place.
If you change your mind and want the benefits of predictive typing suggestions back, you can restore QuickType by swiping up on the small white bar. Users should note that hiding or showing QuickType is a universal setting across iOS, meaning that if you hide it in one app, it will remain hidden in others. This also means that users aren’t currently able to configure QuickType on a per-app basis (hiding it in Safari, but showing it in Messages, for example), but thankfully a quick swipe up or down is all that’s required to set your preference as needed.
