Apple announced today that its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) will take place this year June 8 through June 12 at its usual venue in San Francisco’s Moscone West event center. The event has historically served as both a training and learning opportunity for those developing for Apple platforms, as well as a venue for Apple to announce new products and initiatives.
In recent years, tickets to the show have sold out within minutes, prompting Apple to introduce a random selection process which will continue this year. Those interested in attending the conference can register from now until this Friday, April 17, at 10:00 a.m. PDT. Apple will then randomly select winners and notify them via email by Monday, April 20 at 5:00 p.m. PDT.
With the impending launch of Apple Watch, WWDC 2015 will be even more in demand, as new and existing developers scramble to learn the new platform and optimize their apps. From Apple’s press release, the highlights of the show include:
- more than 100 technical sessions presented by Apple engineers on a wide range of topics for developing, deploying and integrating the latest iOS and OS X technologies;
- over 1,000 Apple engineers supporting more than 100 hands-on labs and events to provide developers with code-level assistance, insight into optimal development techniques and guidance on how they can make the most of iOS and OS X technologies in their apps;
- access to the latest innovations, features and capabilities of iOS and OS X, and best practices for enhancing an app’s functionality, performance, quality and design;
- the opportunity to connect with thousands of fellow iOS and OS X developers from around the world—last year more than 60 countries were represented;
- a series of get togethers for attendees focused on particular topics with special guest speakers and activities; engaging and inspirational lunchtime sessions with leading minds and influencers from the worlds of technology, science and entertainment; and
- Apple Design Awards which recognize iPhone®, iPad®, Apple Watch™ and Mac® apps that demonstrate technical excellence, innovation and outstanding design.
Those eager to attend the conference for the first time should note that the ticket prices aren’t cheap. In addition to travel and accommodations, each WWDC ticket costs US$1,599, and tickets are only valid for the applicant who wins the lottery.
