Father’s Day 2016 Gift Guide for Home Theater Dads

By Ara Derderian on June 4, 2016 at 8:00 PM • @hdtvpodcast

Father’s Day is Sunday, June 19, 2016, and that means there’s still time to pick something up for the home theater and gadget-obsessed dads in your life. The HT Guys are back with some great Father’s Day gift ideas to help you find that perfect, and possibly unexpected, gift.

Need to promote your business? Check out custom engraved RTIC tumblers from Perfect Etch.

QNAP TS-453A 4-Bay NAS ($600)

Let’s face it, our lives are digital. Whether it be photos, home movies, music, TV or Blu-ray rips, we need safe storage for all our files. A Network Attached Storage (NAS) unit is one of the best ways to do that. You’ll need to add drives but it’s worth it because this unit is extremely versatile. In addition to storage, you can also run a Plex Server to stream your files at home or away, and the TS-453A’s quad-core Intel processor can handle both playback and transcoding of up to 4K video files. You can also bypass the entire “NAS” setup completely and attach the TS-453A and its huge storage directly to your home theater setup thanks to its built-in HDMI ports. This NAS is a little high on the price side but aren’t we dad’s worth it?

Ray Super Remote ($250)

You know we are big fans of universal remotes! But this one looks so cool! We don’t have any experience with the device but it checks all the boxes on our list so we’ll go with it! Ray has an integrated guide that looks gorgeous! There are built in apps for the Apple TV, Roku, and Xbox. There is even a Kids app that is easy for the little ones to use. Look for a review on this remote in the future.

Deconovo Black Thermal Insulated Blackout Panel Curtain ($17)

Whether it be glare or ambient light that washes out the picture, nothing ruins a movie watching experience like light! Blackout curtains are a great, and inexpensive, way to enjoy your home theater in the daytime. These curtains are heavy and work as sound and heat insulation as well. It’s $17 well spent!

Kuna Outdoor Home Security Camera & Light ($199)

Kuna is a smart home security system built into an outdoor lighting fixture. The camera detects movement at your door and sends an alert to your smartphone, allowing you to see and interact with visitors no matter where you are. It’s like a doorbell camera but more versatile. These lights can be placed anywhere that you would place outdoor light — front porch, back porch, or the driveway. And they’re simple to install, too. All you need is a Wi-Fi connection and in just minutes you’ll be set up to monitor the outside of your home from anywhere.
