3. Logitech Harmony Smart Control Remote ($100)
The Logitech Harmony Smart Control combines the best of both physical and app-based solutions for controlling a home entertainment center. Setup is quick and can be accomplished entirely via the free smartphone app, and an included hub translates Wi-Fi and RF signals into the more common IR format, enabling users to control devices inside closed cabinets from anywhere in the room.
The included remote is simple and lightweight, and has an incredibly long battery life (we’ve used our Smart Control remote for about 4 months and have yet to replace the battery a single time). Those looking for a more advanced touch screen remote experience, like those featured on previous Harmony remotes, can pick up the new Harmony Ultimate for $350, although most dads will be so happy with the basic Smart Control package that we’re not sure the extra cost for the Ultimate is worth it.
