Watching These Ukrainians Free Climb the Shanghai Tower Will Give You Acrophobia

By Jim Tanous on February 12, 2014 at 3:54 PM • @mggjim

Ultra-portable HD cameras like the GoPro have given thrill seekers the means to capture their incredible exploits from a whole new perspective, and the trusty Internet has been there to share the results. Now some Ukrainian teens have taken this arrangement to the next level with death-defying footage of their free climb up Shanghai Tower, the world’s second-tallest building.

Prepare for spring and summer outdoor fun with a sleek and stylish custom-engraved Corkcircle Canteen from Perfect Etch.

Construction on the Tower began in late 2008 and crews completed the building’s skeleton in August 2013. At a height of 2,073 feet, the Tower is the tallest in China and second overall only to the Burj Khalifa in the United Arab Emirates.

Climbers Vitaliy Raskalov and Vadim Makhorov lived to tell the tale and share their footage. Despite their success, it’s a safe bet that if you weren’t afraid of heights before watching their video, you are now.
