Adobe Releases Lightroom 5 for Windows & OS X

After two months of public betas, Adobe announced late Sunday the release of Photoshop Lightroom 5. The photographer-targeted image management and processing application touts six major new features along with hundreds of tweaks and improvements. From Adobe’s VP of Creative Media Solutions products, Winston Hendrickson:

Lightroom was originally conceived through the requests of Adobe customers, and this feedback continues to drive each new iteration. As the digital photography landscape advances and evolves, Lightroom is the best solution for photographers and passionate hobbyists who want to get the most out of their digital images.

Major features include a new Advanced Healing Brush, Upright Tool for automatic image straightening, Radial Gradients, Smart Previews, new Photo Book creation options, and the ability to create HD video slideshows directly from within the app.

Lightroom 5 is now rolling out to Creative Cloud customers for installation on both Windows and OS X. Unlike the rest of Adobe’s media apps, however, Lightroom also remains available as a traditionally-licensed standalone product priced at $149 for new users. Existing Lightroom owners can upgrade their licenses to Lightroom 5 for $79 and a special Student & Teacher edition is also available for $79.

Lightroom 5 requires Windows 7 SP1 or higher or OS X 10.7 or higher. It’s available now from Adobe.
